the plantation music took us from our misery/
In the sixties it motivated
us to victory /
but in the new millennium its all about the industry
/ like everything that came before deleted from our memory.... -
Mello-D
More than your average emcee, Mello-D is a true renaissance man. He
can play the saxophone plus all the other instruments in his band and he
writes and produces both the lyrics and the music tracks for Mello-D
& the Rados. "Antitainment is a clean break from the negative
stereotypes that exist in todays mainstream urban music."
says Mello-D. We bring the love, artistry and true conscious hip-hop
sensibility that everyone else is missing."
The 1998 debut of Mello-D's first album, Backsliding, received high
praise in the world of underground hip-hop introducing this unique multi-talented
artist to the world in a big way. The 2002 release of The Ultimate Truth built on that momentum producing the blazing lead single, "Keep
On", which hit #2 on the HITS / Rap Attack college radio charts. Mello-D & the Rados also released a music video for the song, "Stupid
Jerk", which featured comedian T.L. Fitz (Comic View, Apollo) and
was played on BET, MHZ Networks and other national video programs.
In 2005, Mello-D & the Rados took another giant leap forward with
the cutting edge album Antitainment. The jazzy lead single "Cool
Witchu" hit #3 on college radio nationwide and the music video
was played regularly on B.E.T., MTV2, MTV Brazil and other major video
outlets exposing Mello-D & the Rados to over 100 million people
worldwide. Cool Witchu and four other songs were selected for the 2007 Grammy Awards nomination ballot.
Today, Mello-D & the Rados expands on the Antitianment movement
with the independent release of the band's fourth album entitled Antitainment
Vol. 2: Truth...Lies...Etc. The album features cameo appearances
from Jonny Black, V. Rich, Akshan and the legendary KRS-ONE. The band
has sold thousands of CDs all over the world and continues to be heard
nationally and internationally with tours in the United States as well
as England and Brazil where over 10,000 fans came to the shows.
Mello-D has performed and/or recorded with KRS-ONE, Jill Scott,
The Roots, Les Nubians, Jimmy Cliff, Maxi Priest and he has played with
jazz legends like Charlie Hampton, Herb Smith, Barry Harris, George
Coleman and Clark Terry. |
